ASTRAY FROM THE STEERAGE

Cinemavixion Review

Frank Powell's 1921 short comedy, "Astray From The Steerage," offers a whimsical look at the immigrant experience through the eyes of Billy Bevan and Louise Fazenda. The film, running approximately 20 minutes, humorously depicts the anxieties and absurdities of arriving in a new country. The plot follows a couple detained by authorities, unaware that a smuggler has inadvertently become entangled in their luggage, destined for their new place of work. While not a critical darling, earning a 5.4 on IMDb, this short provides a charming, albeit brief, glimpse into early 20th-century cinematic comedy, showcasing the talents of Bevan and Fazenda in a narrative that cleverly uses mistaken identity and situational humor.
