ASTEROID

Cinemavixion Review

Dylan Avery's 2021 film "Asteroid" presents a compelling, albeit bleak, narrative of domestic life colliding with existential dread. The story follows an urbanite family man who seeks a quieter existence on the edge of a small town, only to find his dream of suburban tranquility shattered by the impending apocalypse. The film masterfully juxtaposes the mundane concerns of family and relocation with the overwhelming backdrop of global catastrophe. While the "Asteroid" of the title might suggest a spectacle-driven sci-fi event, Avery instead opts for a more intimate, character-focused exploration of how ordinary people confront the extraordinary. The performances, particularly from the lead cast, ground the narrative in relatable human emotion, making the impending doom feel all the more poignant. Despite its limited distribution, "Asteroid" offers a thought-provoking meditation on life, loss, and the human spirit in the face of ultimate uncertainty.
