Cinemavixion Review

Alberto De Martino's "Assault on Fort Texan" plunges viewers into the tumultuous year of 1863, a period when the American Civil War's thunderous conflict was mirrored by clandestine operations on the Texas frontier. The narrative weaves a complex tapestry of alliances and betrayals, as a Confederate regiment, led by the resourceful Col. George Bonnett (Eduardo Fajardo), seeks passage to Mexico. Their path is obstructed by the Union's 5th and 7th Cavalry, forcing an unlikely partnership with Apache Chief Wild Horse. The film vividly portrays the strategic ingenuity of the Apache warriors, whose diversionary tactics successfully lure and decimate the Union forces. Central to the drama are the performances of Edmund Purdom as the roguish Maj. Sugar Patterson, whose initial disinterest in duty is challenged by the captivating Amanda (Mónica Randall), and Paul Piaget as the steadfast Maj. Sam Allison. The presence of Ida Galli as Nelly, a saloon singer whose allegiances remain ambiguous, adds a layer of suspense. "Assault on Fort Texan" is a compelling Western that explores themes of loyalty, survival, and the shifting tides of war against a rugged, historical backdrop.
