AS IF I’M NOT THERE

Cinemavixion Review

Juanita Wilson's "As If I’m Not There" plunges viewers into the brutal reality of the Bosnian War through the eyes of Samira, a young school teacher whose life is irrevocably altered. The narrative masterfully depicts the shattering impact of invasion, where ordinary lives are reduced to survival amidst unspeakable atrocities. Wilson’s direction eschews sensationalism, opting instead for a stark and unflinching portrayal of women rounded up and subjected to the dehumanizing conditions of a remote camp. Natasha Petrovic delivers a powerful performance as Samira, embodying resilience and a desperate struggle to maintain one's identity when stripped of all else. The film serves as a poignant testament to the enduring human spirit in the face of unimaginable loss and the insidious psychological toll of conflict, urging viewers to remember the silenced voices and the horrors endured.
