Archie Mayo's "Angel on My Shoulder" presents a fascinating, albeit dated, exploration of redemption and fate, anchored by a compelling supernatural premise. The film cleverly pits gangster Eddie Kagel, posthumously resurrected as a judge, against the Devil himself. What begins as a quest for vengeance unexpectedly transforms into a series of good deeds, much to Nick's (The Devil's) chagrin. Paul Muni delivers a robust performance, navigating the dual nature of his character with conviction, while Anne Baxter and Claude Rains provide strong support. The narrative's twists, where intended malice yields benevolence, offer a unique moral commentary.
