AN ORPHAN 雪中孤雏

Cinemavixion Review

This 1929 melodrama, "An Orphan" (雪中孤雏), plunges into the harrowing plight of Hu Chun Mei. Married unwillingly into a wealthy but cruel family, she finds herself ostracized and tormented. Her despair drives her to a suicide attempt, only to be rescued by the benevolent Dapeng Yang. However, his father's heartless decree casts her out into the unforgiving snow, sealing her tragic fate. The film appears to be a stark portrayal of societal cruelty and the vulnerability of women in its era.
