AN IDLE MIND IS THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND

Cinemavixion Review

Michael Jason Allen's 2016 independent film, "An Idle Mind Is the Devil's Playground," offers a chilling descent into isolation and paranoia. Set in November 1960, the narrative centers on Sid Kottler, a reclusive musician haunted by anthropophobia, who finds his solitary existence shattered by an unnerving presence within his home. Ben Lokey delivers a compelling performance as Sid, capturing the character's profound social anxiety and growing dread. Allen, who also penned the script, crafts a taut psychological thriller that masterfully builds atmosphere, leveraging the confines of Sid's isolated world to amplify the sense of unease. While the film garnered two nominations and a respectable 7.2 rating on IMDb, its deliberate pacing and focus on internal torment may appeal more to fans of atmospheric horror than those seeking overt jump scares. "An Idle Mind Is the Devil's Playground" is a testament to the power of suggestion and the terror that can lurk within the human psyche.
