AN IDLE MIND IS THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND

Cinemavixion Review

Michael Jason Allen's 2016 mystery-thriller, "An Idle Mind Is the Devil's Playground," offers a chilling descent into isolation and paranoia. Set in November 1960, the film follows Sid Kottler, a retired musician who has lived in self-imposed solitude for thirteen years, crippled by anthropophobia. His carefully constructed world begins to unravel when a disturbing character from a recent, unsettling encounter manifests, suggesting he is no longer alone. Allen, who also penned the script, crafts a narrative that blurs the lines between reality and delusion, expertly building suspense. While the film garnered two nominations, its tight runtime of 61 minutes belies a potent exploration of fear and the psychological toll of isolation. With a solid 7.2 rating on IMDb, "An Idle Mind Is the Devil's Playground" is a compelling watch for fans of atmospheric, character-driven mysteries that delve into the darker corners of the human psyche.
