AMERICA'S WEIRDEST SUBCULTURES: BEER PONG & SKATOPIA

Cinemavixion Review

This installment of 'Unplanned America' takes viewers on a fascinating, albeit brief, journey into the heart of distinctly American subcultures. The episode contrasts the high-stakes, boisterous atmosphere of the World Beer Pong Championships in Las Vegas with the more insular, counter-cultural existence found at Skatopia, an anarchist skateboarding commune in Ohio. Through the eyes of three Australian friends who abandon their original plans, the series aims to uncover the 'weird, wonderful, intimidating and inspiring' societies across the United States. While the episode promises an exploration of unique sporting cultures, its brevity and focus on these two specific, disparate groups might leave audiences wanting a deeper dive into the broader tapestry of American fringe societies.
