AMERICAN WARSHIPS

Cinemavixion Review

In 'American Warships,' director Thunder Levin presents a low-budget, high-stakes alien invasion thriller that leans heavily into its B-movie roots. Released in 2012, the film stars Mario Van Peebles and Carl Weathers as they find themselves on the front lines when an unknown assailant targets a US plane, escalating tensions that threaten a new global conflict. However, the true enemy is revealed to be an extraterrestrial force, leaving humanity's fate in the hands of a lone, aging battleship. While the film may not boast Hollywood A-list production values, it delivers a straightforward action narrative, attempting to blend military action with science fiction elements. Its IMDb rating of 2.7/10 suggests a divisive reception, likely appealing more to fans of direct-to-video action and sci-fi who appreciate its earnest, if unpolished, attempt at a large-scale conflict.
