AMERICAN JESUS - EXPLORING CHRISTIANITY IN AMERICA

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary, "American Jesus - Exploring Christianity in America," offers a fascinating and diverse look into the multifaceted nature of faith across the United States. Director Aram Garriga embarks on a journey from his native Barcelona to the politically charged landscape of America, seeking to understand the intricate connections between religious belief, consumerism, political ideologies, and personal desires. The film captures a wide spectrum of Christian expression, ranging from the devout followers in humble snake-handling churches to the grand spectacles of mega-churches in the exurbs. Garriga introduces us to an array of characters – Christian cowboys, bikers, musicians, comedians, surfers, and cage fighters – all united by their devotion to Christ. Through candid and often profound testimonials from both religious adherents and secular observers, "American Jesus" constructs a vivid mosaic of personalities and clashing viewpoints. It ultimately presents a compelling portrait of a nation grappling with its identity, seeking solace and purpose in an ever-changing modern world.
