AMERICAN HANGMAN

Cinemavixion Review

Wilson Coneybeare's "American Hangman" plunges viewers into a chilling contemporary thriller, exploring the dark corners of online justice. The film masterfully crafts a sense of urgency as an unknown assailant orchestrates a deadly social media spectacle, forcing the public into the roles of judge and jury. Donald Sutherland and Vincent Kartheiser deliver compelling performances, navigating the moral complexities of their characters within this high-stakes digital trial. While the narrative grapples with potent themes of mob mentality and the amplification of voyeurism in the digital age, its exploration of these ideas, though ambitious, yields a mixed critical reception, as evidenced by its 44% Rotten Tomatoes score. The film serves as a stark, if somewhat uneven, commentary on our interconnected, and at times, cruel, online world.
