AMERICA ADRIFT

Cinemavixion Review

"America Adrift" plunges into the harrowing reality of the opioid epidemic, specifically focusing on the devastating impact along Long Island's "Heroin Highway." Directed by Christopher James Lopez, the film, released in 2016, attempts to capture the ripple effect of addiction within seemingly idyllic middle-class families. The narrative centers on a mother's fight to reclaim her family from the clutches of heroin, a struggle that forms the emotional core of the drama. While the film's premise is potent and timely, its execution, as indicated by a 6.6 rating on IMDb, suggests a mixed reception. The performances, particularly from Luna Lauren Velez and Tony Plana, are key to grounding the story in emotional authenticity. "America Adrift" serves as a stark reminder of a pervasive crisis, offering a glimpse into the personal battles fought behind closed doors.
