AMAZING GRACE

Cinemavixion Review

Michael Apted's "Amazing Grace" offers a compelling dramatization of William Wilberforce's arduous, decades-long campaign to abolish the slave trade in Great Britain. The film masterfully navigates the political and personal challenges faced by Wilberforce, brought to life with conviction by Ioan Gruffudd. Supported by a distinguished ensemble, including Albert Finney as the former slave ship captain John Newton and Michael Gambon, the narrative poignantly illustrates the personal toll of such a monumental struggle. "Amazing Grace" is more than a historical account; it's a testament to the power of perseverance and conviction against formidable opposition. The film commendably balances the grand sweep of political history with intimate moments of doubt and renewed determination, making it a significant and moving piece of historical cinema.
