Mikki del Monico's "Alto" presents a vibrant tapestry of Italian-American culture, family expectations, and unexpected romance, cleverly interwoven with the shadowy influence of the mafia. The film navigates the complexities of identity and desire as Francesca, a headstrong young woman, finds her carefully laid plans for marriage and career colliding with a burgeoning attraction to Nicolette, the daughter of a mob boss. While the narrative touches on familiar tropes of organized crime, it distinguishes itself by focusing on the personal stakes and the often humorous, sometimes perilous, intersections of these disparate worlds. Annabella Sciorra and Ward Horton lend gravitas to the family dynamics, while Natalie Knepp shines as the compelling Nicolette.
