ALRIGHT NOW

Cinemavixion Review

Jamie Adams' "Alright Now" offers a refreshingly improvised take on second chances, centering on Joanne (a compelling Cobie Smulders), a seasoned rock musician whose life implodes after a breakup and band dissolution. In a moment of drunken impulse, she enrolls in college, only to find her rock star past holds no sway with a new generation. Smulders anchors the film with a performance that navigates Joanne's vulnerability and resilience with authentic grace. Adams, known for his work in "Black Mountain Poets," directs with a light touch, allowing the narrative to unfold organically, exploring themes of identity, reinvention, and the unexpected joys of new beginnings. While the film garnered a respectable 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, its intimate, character-driven approach and improvisational style make it a discovery for those seeking a feel-good comedy that resonates beyond its musical premise.
