ALMOST THERE: JOURNEY TO DISCOVER THE SECRET TO HAPPINESS

Cinemavixion Review

"Almost There: Journey to Discover the Secret to Happiness" is a profoundly moving documentary that chronicles the late-life quests of three disparate individuals for purpose and contentment. The film masterfully weaves together their narratives: Bob's rugged solo expedition into the Californian desert, seeking an inner toughness; Steve's vibrant, yet introspective, return to England as a drag queen and comedian, confronting his past amidst the stark urbanity of Benidorm; and Yamada's gentle rediscovery of joy through the simple act of reading to children in Tokyo. Each man's journey, though unique in setting and circumstance, speaks to a universal human yearning. The direction, implied through the compelling storytelling, encourages viewers to reflect on their own paths, suggesting that happiness may not be a destination, but rather found in the courage to embark on the journey itself, regardless of age or perceived limitations.
