ALICE: THE DARKER SIDE OF THE MIRROR

Cinemavixion Review

Zach Hamer's "Alice: The Darker Side of the Mirror" reimagines the classic tale with a chillingly original twist. Set in the Pacific Northwest of 1905, the film plunges a teenage Alice into a Wonderland that reflects the anxieties and peculiarities of early 20th-century America. This isn't a whimsical escape; it's a descent into a world where familiar archetypes are imbued with a disquieting darkness. The narrative explores themes of transition and the uncanny, as Alice navigates this distorted reality. The directorial vision crafts a unique atmosphere, offering a thought-provoking, albeit somber, reimagining that deviates significantly from traditional interpretations. It's a bold exploration of the familiar, filtered through a lens of unsettling mystery and regional gothic.
