ALBERT, R.N.

Cinemavixion Review

Lewis Gilbert's 'Albert, R.N.' plunges viewers into the grim realities of a German POW camp during World War II. The film masterfully captures the ingenuity and unwavering spirit of Allied prisoners who devise an audacious plan to deceive their captors. Central to their scheme is 'Albert,' a cleverly constructed dummy head, a testament to the prisoners' resourcefulness in the face of constant surveillance and failed escape attempts. The narrative builds tension as suspicion of an informer permeates the camp, adding a layer of psychological drama to the physical struggle for freedom. Anthony Steel, Jack Warner, and Robert Beatty deliver compelling performances that anchor the film's emotional core, portraying the camaraderie and desperation of men yearning for liberty. 'Albert, R.N.' is a compelling study of resilience, highlighting the human capacity for hope and defiance even in the bleakest circumstances.
