Cinemavixion Review

In "After the Wizard" (2011), director Hugh Gross attempts to revisit the whimsical Land of Oz, but the magic feels decidedly muted. The narrative posits that the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodman must journey to Kansas to find Dorothy, as Oz has fallen into disarray following the Wizard's departure. While this premise offers a potential avenue for nostalgic exploration, the execution, as suggested by its modest box office and IMDb rating, falls short of enchanting. The film stars Helen Richman, Sean Orr, and Jordan Van Vranken in roles that, unfortunately, do little to elevate the familiar Ozian landscape. Despite a familial fantasy genre classification, "After the Wizard" seems to struggle to capture the wonder that has defined the source material for generations. It's a valiant effort to extend the beloved Oz saga, but one that ultimately feels more like a footnote than a triumphant return to the Emerald City.
