AFTER LOUIE

Cinemavixion Review

"After Louie" offers a poignant and unflinching look at the enduring trauma of the HIV/AIDS epidemic through the eyes of Sam, an artist and former ACT UP activist embodied with compelling depth by Alan Cumming. The film navigates the complexities of survivor's guilt and the artist's struggle to reconcile with a past marked by immense loss. As Sam grapples with his memories and resents what he perceives as the younger generation's complacency, an unexpected connection with a younger man forces a confrontation with his own pain and the evolving landscape of gay identity. Directed by Vincent Gagliostro, this drama, noted for its critical reception including a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is a powerful meditation on memory, activism, and the search for meaning in the face of profound historical tragedy. It is a vital piece of cinema that encourages reflection on the past and its indelible impact on the present.
