ADOLESCENTS OF CHYMERA

Cinemavixion Review

Brandy Brawner's "Adolescents of Chymera" offers a raw and unflinching look into the challenging world of group home living, seen through the eyes of Roy, a young artist from the suburbs. The film navigates the complex dynamics of institutional life, where a newcomer must contend with a leader's rigid, military-style discipline, the unexpected stirrings of a forbidden romance, and the internal struggles that plague its inhabitants. Josh Keaton delivers a compelling performance as Roy, a character whose passion for art becomes his anchor amidst the turmoil. The narrative, rooted in the harsh realities faced by many teenagers, explores themes of survival, hope, and the enduring power of dreams. While the film may not boast widespread critical acclaim or major awards, it serves as a poignant character study and a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. It's a story that encourages empathy and reflection on the often-overlooked experiences of young people in transitional housing.
