ADAM RESURRECTED

Cinemavixion Review

Paul Schrader's 'Adam Resurrected' is a profound and unsettling exploration of trauma and the resilience of the human spirit. Set in an Israeli asylum for Holocaust survivors in 1961, the film centers on Adam Stein, a former circus entertainer whose past horrors manifest in peculiar ways. Jeff Goldblum delivers a tour-de-force performance, embodying Adam's fractured psyche with a captivating blend of dark humor and profound pain. The narrative, drawing from Yoram Kaniuk's novel, masterfully navigates the complex psychological landscape of those scarred by unimaginable atrocities. Schrader's direction is sensitive yet unflinching, allowing the weight of the past to permeate the present. While the film received a mixed reception, its thematic depth and Goldblum's central performance make it a significant work, prompting reflection on survival, identity, and the enduring capacity for connection even in the face of desolation.
