ABOVE THE CLOUDS

Cinemavixion Review

Leon Chambers' 'Above the Clouds' offers a charmingly earnest road trip narrative centered on Charlie, an eighteen-year-old embarking on a quest to uncover the truth about her paternal lineage. The film cleverly blends coming-of-age themes with a dash of unexpected camaraderie as Charlie enlists a homeless man to accompany her on her journey to Scotland. This unlikely pairing forms the emotional core, exploring themes of identity, family secrets, and the societal divides that often go unnoticed. Naomi Wakszlak delivers a compelling performance as Charlie, navigating youthful impulsiveness with a growing sense of self-discovery. While the film received a nomination and seven wins, it might not have reached blockbuster status, yet it stands as a poignant exploration of finding one's roots and the unconventional bonds that can form along the way. Its intimate scale and focus on character make it a worthy watch for those seeking a heartfelt story.
