A WORKING DAY AS A TUDOR LEAD MINER

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a fascinating glimpse into the multifaceted lives of Tudor lead miners, transcending the simple depiction of their primary trade. The narrative skillfully weaves together various aspects of their daily existence, from the arduous process of mining, smelting, and casting lead ingots to the more nuanced activities of plaiting eel baskets and harvesting eels. We see the artisans at work, shaping stained glass with precision, and the community bonding over a visit to the local pub. The film also touches upon their self-sufficiency, showcasing the pasturing of piglets in the forest and the management of their gardens. A particularly intriguing moment is Tom sitting for a portrait captured by a camera obscura, highlighting the era's early photographic techniques. The breadth of activities presented provides a rich, textured portrait of a working day in Tudor England, inviting viewers to appreciate the complexity of historical labor and life.
