A STONE IN OUR HEART

Cinemavixion Review

This deeply affecting Danish documentary, 'A Stone in Our Heart,' offers a raw and unflinching exploration of familial trauma and the arduous path toward reconciliation. Directed by Jette Bitten Glibstrup, the film follows a mother and daughter as they ascend the Swiss Alps, a landscape interwoven with painful memories of childhood abuse. The daughter confronts her mother, seeking acknowledgment of past events and her role in them, creating a palpable tension that mirrors the physical challenge of their climb. The narrative delicately balances the visceral act of confronting suppressed history with the hope for forgiveness and the rebuilding of a fractured relationship. The stark beauty of the alpine setting serves as a powerful counterpoint to the emotional turmoil, making this a compelling, albeit difficult, watch that probes the enduring complexities of love, guilt, and memory.
