A POLAR SHIFT WILL WIPE US OUT

Cinemavixion Review

This 2012 film from The Asylum, directed by Nick Everhart, plunges into the doomsday fervor surrounding the Mayan calendar's predicted end date. The narrative follows four disparate individuals, each wrestling with their own beliefs, who converge at a Mexican temple as the world teeters on the brink of annihilation. Concurrently, NASA scientists frantically analyze the imminent threat of a global polar shift. The film attempts to capture the apocalyptic anxiety of the era, weaving together personal journeys of faith with the overarching specter of planetary destruction. While the premise taps into a potent cultural moment, the execution and performances, particularly by Cliff De Young, Dale Midkiff, and Ami Dolenz, are characteristic of The Asylum's output, often prioritizing spectacle over nuanced storytelling.
