Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the grim reality of the 1361 Battle of Visby, a pivotal and brutal event in Swedish medieval history. The narrative vividly portrays the stark confrontation between 1,800 local Gotland farmers and a highly skilled Danish invasion force. The ensuing massacre is presented not just as a military defeat but as a tragic testament to the islanders' desperate bravery, leaving behind a chilling archaeological record. The film highlights the unique historical legacy unearthed from the battlefield, where the remains of fallen soldiers and citizens offer a silent, powerful account of the sheer ferocity and sacrifice of that dark day. It's a compelling look at a lesser-known but significant medieval conflict.
