1360-1415: HOW THE TYRANNICAL REIGN OF RICHARD II PLUNGED ENGLAND INTO CRISIS

Cinemavixion Review

Dr. Janina Ramirez's "Chivalry & Betrayal, Episode 2" offers a compelling narrative arc, charting England's tumultuous journey from the celebrated victories of Edward III to the deep-seated crises that plagued the later medieval period. The episode masterfully navigates the complex political and military landscape, highlighting how initial triumphs like the Battle of Poitiers and the Treaty of Brétigny were ultimately overshadowed by internal strife and French resurgence. Ramirez vividly portrays the impact of Edward III's incapacitation and the subsequent destabilization under the tyrannical reign of Richard II, which culminated in events like the Peasants' Revolt. The episode concludes by examining the significance of Henry V's victory at Agincourt, providing a poignant reflection on England's enduring capacity for both conflict and resilience in the face of profound national challenges.
