Herb Jeffries

Herb Jeffries carved a unique niche in cinematic history as a velvet-voiced baritone and a pioneering actor. He defied racial barriers in Hollywood during the late 1930s and early 1940s, starring in groundbreaking all-black cast Westerns like 'Harlem on the Prairie' and 'The Bronze Buckaroo.' Jeffries presented a positive, heroic image, notably as a singing cowboy, refusing sub... moreservient roles in 'white' films. His distinctive style and hit songs, including his signature 'Flamingo,' cemented his legacy as a trailblazing artist who championed representation on screen and in music. less
